A compact enclosure, developed around the board and refined through physical fit checks.
Noter needed a compact desktop enclosure for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano, with a clean external form, internal mounting points, ventilation and rear access to power, USB-A and USB-C.
CJM’s role was the mechanical enclosure. The board, electronics and software were outside the design scope.
The enclosure was developed around the board layout, mounting requirements and connector positions. Direct access to the board’s ports was retained at the customer’s request.
The CAD defined the external housing, internal mounting features, ventilation openings and rear port clearances. An SLS nylon prototype provided the next step from digital geometry to a physical fit assessment.

The customer reported a good overall fit from the first prototype, with two areas to refine. The threaded mounting features needed more clearance; CJM adjusted these following investigation of shrinkage in the printed part.
The USB-C opening was also enlarged to accommodate connectors with larger outer casings. This addressed clearance around the connector body as well as access to the board’s socket.

The revised design was physically checked in a second printed prototype. The customer reported that he was pleased with the result and requested no further changes.
The enclosure design was handed over in STEP and STL formats, with machined aluminium as the intended production route.
